About us
Welcome to Kirkintilloch Mountaineering and Walking Club. The club is 49 years old and next year we turn 50! The Club programme includes weekend excursions staying in club huts, bunkhouses or hostels about six times per year. There is no pre-requisite level of experience required to join the club. Although it is useful for us to know how experienced you are and what your level of fitness is, so that you can be accommodated.
Meetings and Activities (Main meeting days: Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays)

Thursdays
A few members meet informally in the Lenzie Rugby Club, on a Thursday evening between 8.30pm and 10pm. It is at these meetings that proposals for future outings are discussed. Please note that meetings are occasionally changed to another location if there is a social event taking place such as a BBQ or Slide night.

If the club is due to go away for a weekend meeting on a Friday night then the Thursday meeting may not take place. We always advise that prospective new members contact us to check that a meeting is taking place before coming to the club meeting night for the first time.

Sundays & Wednesdays
Our regular outings take place on Sundays and Wednesdays. We car share when travelling to our destination and we share fuel costs. For a Sunday outing we usually meet just before 8:00am in the 'Barleybank' public car park beside St Mary's Church in Kirkintilloch town centre. Sunday walks usually involve the ascent on a Munro or two or a Corbett.

An email is sent to the members a day or so before hand to announce the proposed walk and confirming the meeting place and time. As you can appreciate the weather can force us to change plans at short notice. Once again we always advise that prospective new members contact us to check there is an outing taking place before coming out with the club for the first time.

The location for the walk taking place on a Sunday is planned and announced well in advance and is an ideal time for prospective new members to join us. The Thursday immediately before this meet is also a good night to come to the rugby club as it is workshop evenings to teach or update members skills on subjects such a navigation and other hill skills.

Less taxing walks take place on Wednesday normally meetings at 9.10am. The rendezvous points for these walks are given in the email that notified you to the proposed walk.

In addition to the scheduled walks, the club also organises 4 weekend trips (approx) throughout the year as well as holding a number of social events. A big advantage of coming out with the club is that you will benefit from the experience and knowledge of other members e.g. navigation skills, how to use an ice axe etc. The club also possesses a small pool of equipment that is loaned to members.
